These 50 Years have imbibed in him a vast knowledge of human behaviour. What constitues a behaviour normal or abnormal is a person's and society's own concept and these concepts keep on changing with time, period and Zones. A behaviour may be normal in one society but the same behaviour may be treated as abnormal in other societies. That way, a person dealing in the science of human behaviour can not keep himself confined to any one society or time period. If we can understand this simple concept, then we have to understand this concept also that the present day knowledge of psychiatry is based on the concepts which were known and prevalent during the time period of 1850 to 1925. And that was the period when people suffering from all kinds of abnormal behaviour were understood to be suffering from one illness - that is Madness and they all were dumped together in mental asylums. And this abnormal behaviour included any type - people suffering from paralysis, mental retardation or even a young adolescent boy masturbating in public or a boy sitting in front of his girl friend all night because she was was not talking with him. Those all were suffering from a same kind of illness - Madness. And one would not believe but that young boy masturbating in the public or sitting in front of his girl friend's house, both were labelled as suffering from the severe most illness. Can a diagnosis of abnormal human behaviour based on above kind of examples be taken as true representation of behaviouaral science?
Prof. Gurnani has been raising his voice against this kind of nomenclature in all the scientific forums - National and International Levels. He has a wriiten a book also on this subject: "Schizphrenia - A Myth. Analysis of mighty Maze of Mind - In Kraepelinian Era."
The response to this book has been interesting. Whereas one of his Indian collegue posted his comments in the official E-mailing group of Indian Psychiatric Society, "Does Dr. Gurnani want to say that what we have been practicing for last thirty years is wrong?" The official reviewer of Indian Psychiatric society in the scientific journal, while reviewing the book, could not make out any mistake in the findings, but could only state that it is a good book in which all the historical aspects have been analysed.
On the contrary, The International Community resposnse to this book was quite favourable. The Editor of Schizophrenia Bulletin (The International scientific journal on this topic published from USA), sent a personal message to Dr. Gurnani, Stating, that the facts which had been discussed and disclosed in the book were quite interesting and that even he was not aware of those facts and that he will quote these findings in his upcomg book.
More than 100 years have passed and thousands and lakhs of people have been trained on the subject with above those old concepts. Millions and Billions of dollors have been spent and are still being spent on the scientific research based on these old concepts. Multiple pharmaceutical companies are earning billions of dollors by manufacturing molecules based on those concepts. And all these molecules control the illness, these do not treat. Is it then possible that a small book like this will bring a revolutioonary change in the scientific concepts and that too by a small person like Prof. Gurnani? Time is not ripe yet, but it is not too far also. We are going to see that revolutionary change in a decade time. People and science are changing but in a subtle disguised way. Because, they can not accept the challenge that OK, we agree, that, what we have been stating all through those decades and century was wrong.
Prof. Gurnani views and treats the patients with this view point and this brings out a tremendous benefical response to his patients.
Prof. Gurnani is a well known figure amongst the psychiatrist of the country. He was elected as President of Indian Psychiaytric Society - Central Zone, way back in 1996 and President Indian Psychiatric Society - UP State in 2024.

She was actively involved in the clinical practice of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Agra from the year 1985 to 2015 when she was running her own clinical setup, named, "Gurnani Nursing Home" at Shahganj Agra. Later she confined herself to only outdoor consultation and presently she gives her consultation online and comes once in a while at her clinic at the above stated address.
